Ligature Type is a collaborative type & typography studio based in Berlin. We produce high quality retail and custom typefaces that go beyond style. What we really want to do is to convey a story or an atmosphere, to amplify ideas and make them visual. At the same time, our fonts live up to all you expect from a modern font, in technical and other regards. Our curiosity pushes us to ask extra questions, leading to specific solutions.

Alexander Rütten is a type- and graphic designer. After studying communication design at the University of Applied Sciences in Trier he relocated to Berlin. While working as an art director in various design agencies, designing and producing interactive applications or doing editorial design, he continued to design fonts. He won the TDC Award two times and was also nominated for the German Design Award.

Olivia Wood studied typography with Professor Andreas Hogan in Trier before moving to Berlin, where she co-founded Formsport Design Studio with Alexander Rütten. Since then she has worked in design, founded and developed a café concept, and become a mother of two. Today her focus is on type design and the development of new additions to the Ligature Type library.
